About Selma

Selma Lachemi is a registered social worker with a Master’s in social
work from Toronto Metropolitan University.  Selma is passionate about the mental health field with a specific focus on supporting children, youth and adolescents to reach their optimal mental health well-being.  Selma has experience working in non-profit sectors as well as the school systems working with youth to increase mental
health awareness and supporting them through their difficulties such as depression,
anxiety, emotional regulation, trauma, stress management, and addictions. 

Selma firmly believes in the process of transformation especially with the right supports. She utilizes a systems approach to ensure her clients are supported on an individual, familial, and community level. Selma approaches her work from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed lens. Ensuring that her clients feels safe and validated so they can use their inner wisdom to help navigate life and create empowering narratives for themselves. 

Selma uses a combination of evidence-based interventions in her therapeutic work, including cognitive behavioural therapy,  Dialectial Behavioral Therapy (DBT), 

Selma is in good standing with the Ontario Association of Social Workers.

      Rana Shami

      About Rana

      Rana is a registered social worker with more than 10 years of experience providing mental health services to individuals, couples and families. Her therapeutic approach is client-centred and strength-based. She believes in helping her clients find their inner strength and walks along their side on the journey to self exploration and healing. She uses a variety of therapeutic modalities including attachment-based trauma informed approach, emotion focused therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectic behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness.

      Over the years, she helped clients cope with stress, depression and anxiety related to life transitions, parenting, loss and grief, coping with health problems and medical diagnoses, self image, self esteem, eating disorders, social anxiety, phobias, and anger management. Her particular area of interest is helping individuals with ADHD and/or Autism diagnoses and their families. She is passionate about empowering families and children with special needs and helping them build resilience and enjoy life to the fullest.

        Saba Rizvi

        About Saba

        Saba Rizvi is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and an Art Therapist who works
        with individuals of all ages, as well as with couples. Her focus is trauma, chronic illness,
        relationships, stress relief, and anxiety, and depression.

        Saba has been active in the mental health and medical field for over 15
        years and has been practicing as a therapist for over 5 years now. She has successfully
        introduced Art Therapy at the long-term care units at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial
        Hospital and Milton District Hospital, as well as at Nisa Homes and Naseeha and has worked closely with the Brain Injury Societies in Ontario. Saba also
        has experience working with individuals from Indigenous backgrounds, helping them
        manage intergenerational trauma, PTSD, and providing trauma-informed treatment. 

        Saba has training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solutions Focused Brief
        Therapy (SFBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy

          Marwa Mahmod

          About Marwa

          Marwa is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She first began her career as an educator and learned quickly that her passion lie’s in supporting youth and adults to navigate their life’s challenges and attain a deeper sense of self-awareness. This inspired her to pursue her Master of Education in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy at OISE, at the University of Toronto.  

          Marwa has experience supporting youth and adults, particularly women, with her roles at Glendon York University, Nisa Homes and Naseeha Mental Health. She has worked alongside people who struggle with various concerns, including stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, grief, domestic abuse, narcissistic abuse, relationship issues, life transitions and women’s issues. Marwa is passionate about she strives to provide client-centred support using a holistic, strength-based, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive approach.

          By nurturing a safe, compassionate, inclusive and empathic space, Marwa collaboratively works with her clients to meet their unique needs and goals. Her practice is eclectic in nature, often drawing on psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive-Based Therapy (CBT), self-compassion therapy and mindfulness-based interventions. She believes it is a privilege to be a part of your journey of self-discovery and healing.

          Upon request, Marwa can provide faith-based therapy for clients who identify as Muslim and can provide services in English with a working knowledge of Arabic.

            Michèle P Cheng

            About Michèle

            Michèle Cheng, M.A. is a doctoral candidate at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the
            School and Applied Child Psychology program. She specializes in the assessment and treatment of
            children, adolescents and adults.
            She has a strong foundation in bilingual (French/English) psychological and neuropsychological
            assessment, mental health and academic intervention, as well as individual and system-wide
            consultation. Specifically, she has expertise in working with children and youth with a variety of
            mental health difficulties, including anxiety, mood disorders, emotion and behaviour regulation,
            learning and attention difficulties, trauma, and traumatic brain injuries.
            Michèle draws from various therapeutic orientations, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT),
            mindfulness, and motivational interviewing to create treatment plans that empower clients to
            become the heroes they all have the potential to be. To accomplish this goal, she strives to offer
            reflective, trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.

              Irfan Rehemtulla

              About Irfan

              Irfan is a Registered Social Worker who graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master of Social Work, specializing in children and families. In addition to his role at Cedarway Therapy, Irfan works at the George Hull Centre for Children and Families, with children, youths, and families who are facing significant behavioural, emotional, and mental health difficulties. Irfan has a particular interest in helping children and youth in learning effective coping strategies to be able to healthy manage the various challenges they may be facing. Irfan ensures to work in a collaborative way that engages children and their caregivers in the therapeutic method that prioritizes connection and safety for the family system. Irfan’s practice with children includes giving families the necessary strategies and tools to increase positive functioning in the parent-child relationship.

              Irfan has experience in working with children and youth from 0 – 24, with a focus on those struggling with emotional regulation, depression, anxiety, and who have attachment difficulties with their caregivers. Irfan also provides therapy with those who struggle with low self-esteem and self-harming behaviours.

              Irfan has been trained in various modalities and their application to children and adolescents, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).                 Zeynep Acar

                About Zeynep

                Zeynep is a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Workers. She completed her Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) at the University of Toronto with a collaborative specialization in aging, palliative, and supportive care across the life course.

                Zeynep completed a clinical practicum at the Multi-Care Kidney Clinic at St. Michael’s Hospital, where she provided direct social work services to patients diagnosed with chronic and end-stage kidney disease. After graduating with her MSW, Zeynep worked as a social worker for various inpatient and outpatient units at St. Michael’s Hospital. She is currently working with women who completed breast cancer treatment at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

                Zeynep has experience working with individuals and families dealing with mental health challenges, such as depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, grief and bereavement, body image issues, suicide, trauma, end-of-life care, relationship issues, and domestic violence. In addition to her clinical work, Zeynep has been actively involved in several research studies at Stanford University and the University of Toronto.

                  About Hamza

                    Salisha Mohamed

                    About Salisha

                    Salisha is a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist with the Ontario College of Social Workers and has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto.  She has over 20 years of experience counselling a diverse population and helping them to work through their challenges.

                    She has worked at a Community Health Centre for 17 years focusing on mental health.  She has provided therapy to clients of all ages, particularly youth and adults in the capacity of individual, couples, and family counselling.  She has also facilitated many groups and workshops on various topics such as self-esteem, assertiveness, anger, healthy relationships, anxiety, as well as DBT groups focusing on emotion regulation and distress tolerance.  In addition, she has many years of experience providing therapy to clients and their families at a counselling walk-in clinic in Durham as well as being a Clinical Supervisor to the Therapists at the clinic. 

                    She has provided therapy to clients who have presented with a variety of concerns such as depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, conflict, self-esteem, trauma, grief, etc.

                    Salisha’s therapeutic approach involves first creating a felt sense of safety and comfort with her clients.  She provides support in a warm, compassionate manner and assists clients to develop meaningful insights to help them work through difficulties and get to a place of self-growth.  In addition, she helps clients learn practical skills and strategies that they can begin applying immediately to work on their challenges. 

                    Salisha works from a lens of cultural humility and honours clients’ values.  She uses a nonjudgmental approach and seeks to develop a greater understanding of clients’ experiences and helps them process and make sense of them.  She is very collaborative in her work with clients and seeks to learn about their needs and counselling goals and ensures that therapeutic modalities used are in alignment with this.  She is very passionate about working alongside of her clients to help them attune to their own inner wisdom, strengthen their sense of self, and assist them toward becoming the best version of themselves that helps them feel authentic, connected, and confident with who they are.

                    In addition to the blend of various therapeutic modalities used when working with clients, other areas of focus in her work include using a holistic approach, mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, somatic experiencing, compassion-focused and strength-based approaches.  She also provides faith-based and spiritual counselling upon request.
