My career as a therapist started as a career in theatre and film due to my love of narrative and storytelling. Over time, I became more interested in how the stories we believe about ourselves shape how we live our lives. I use scientifically supported treatments like CBT to explore these stories and see how helpful or not they are. Of course, we often already know that something isn’t working, but it can be hard to believe anything different. To that end, our sessions usually include seeking out new experiences to develop new perspectives. My clients tell me they’re surprised by how much more they can do than they first thought.
I focus on helping people deal with intrusive thoughts related to many issues, like Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), PTSD, and anxiety. I came to this specialty through a practicum treating severe OCD at Sunnybrook Hospital. I also work with many other difficulties like depression, ADHD, or insomnia, so we can adapt to whatever you’re struggling with.
My background in the arts informs my work with a sense of collaboration, curiosity, and playfulness. I find this approach particularly helpful when dealing with intrusive thoughts since they can feel abhorrent, bizarre, and terrifying. I’m delighted to work at Cedarway Therapy and look forward to helping you.
