Amal Qutub is a psychotherapist with a master’s degree in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University and an honour’s bachelor’s degree in Human Rights and Equity Studies from York University. She also has a post-graduate diploma in community engaged research and evaluation from McMaster University.
Amal’s therapeutic practice is client-centered, trauma-informed, and attachment-focused. She maintains an anti-oppressive approach and is trained in systemic therapies.
Amal has extensive experience in children’s mental health and has worked with various school boards in Ontario and Alberta. She has also previously worked in the newcomer sector, as well as supporting families with disabilities. Amal specializes in addressing challenges such as emotional regulation, depression, anxiety, grief, and navigating family transitions and conflicts.
Amal is a firm believer in the power of involving parents and caregivers in the therapeutic process, equipping them with tools to effectively support and enrich their relationships with their children, no matter how young or old they are. Amal’s approach is collaborative, non-judgmental, and empowers clients by honoring their own wisdom and lived experiences. She uses a systemic lens to explore how broader societal, cultural, and familial systems shape individual experiences and relationships.
Additionally Amal is trained in evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Narrative Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT).
Amal is proficient in both English and Arabic, and is open to clients of all faiths and backgrounds. Upon request, she provides faith-based therapy for Muslim clients.
Amal is licensed with both the Ontario College of Social Workers and the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers. She is also board member of the International Institute for Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (IIEFFT), and acts as program advisor for multiple community organizations.
