EnglishAbout Irfan
Irfan is a compassionate and experienced Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto, specializing in child and family interventions. Currently, he provides therapeutic services at Cedarway Therapy, where he supports children, youth, and families navigating complex behavioral, emotional, and mental health challenges.
Driven by a passion for empowering young people, Irfan helps children and youth develop effective coping strategies to manage challenges such as anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation difficulties. His collaborative approach engages both children and their caregivers, fostering safety and connection within the family unit. Irfan equips families with practical tools to enhance positive dynamics and strengthen the parent-child relationship.
Irfan has honed his skills at the George Hull centre as a youth and family therapist providing comprehensive therapeutic services to support children, youth, and families facing mental health challenges. There he provided individual therapy to help youth manage issues such as anxiety, depression, and trauma, while also facilitating family therapy to address relational dynamics and improve communication. He also offered parent support and education to help families create nurturing environments and manage challenging behaviors
He is currently a mental health counsellor at McMaster University, where he supports students in navigating high-stress situations and mental health challenges. Through personalized, trauma-informed care, he helps them manage anxiety, depression, stress and mental health concerns, fostering resilience and coping strategies. His work is focused on providing a safe, empathetic space for students to explore their emotions and experiences while offering practical tools for managing stress, building self-esteem, and enhancing overall well-being. This experience has allowed him to develop a deep understanding of the unique pressures faced by young people and the importance of mental health support in academic and personal success.
With extensive experience working with clients aged 2 to 24, Irfan specializes in addressing attachment issues, low self-esteem, and self-harming behaviors. He is trained in evidence-based therapeutic modalities tailored to children and adolescents, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP). His approach is trauma-informed, non-judgmental, and attachment-based, ensuring a supportive environment for healing and growth.
Whether it’s addressing youth anxiety, teen depression, behavioural concerns, or family relationship struggles, Irfan provides compassionate, tailored therapy to meet your unique needs and can support your family’s journey to resilience and well-being.
